Hi and welcome to the forum. My first question (is the displaced metal loose or attached)? From what I see I would tend to think this is post mint damage. I could be wrong.

We have been following the thread on cointalk and some of the responses. This coin has a lamination error. A lamination error is a peeling of a layer of copper from the coin due to some problem with the metal mix or contamination.

I agree, looks like a lamination error to me. Though it's in a different area, it has similarities in appearance to the 1966 Lincoln cent that is illustrated on the DVN "News" (http://www.dvnmagazine.com/news.html) web page Post #41.

Welcome to LCR forum and enjoy the site.

I was thinking of my 1966P lamination error and it seems to be the same type of error. What are the odds of that occurring.

I will again say.......NEVER SAY NEVER......

Great Lamination Error and thank you for posting this category of error which never gets the type of coverage it deserves and newcomers do not know the make and origin of this type. Thanks to Billy and others who contributed.
