View Full Version : NEVER seen this before, have you?
I know this is a forum for Lincoln Cent specialization topics, however, I was having extreme difficulties with no resolution on getting pictures uploaded on another forum site designed for all coin topics. With this said, I am attempting to post here to hopefully get some insight on a 2008-P Alaska quarter I found yesterday.
It is some kind of reeding error, maybe a variety if more than one have been found. I am curious if anybody has ever seen this sort of thing and what denomination they found it on. I could not find it in the Error book guide I have so I'm hoping for something good.
All constructive comments and feedback are welcome. Thanks for your time.

From my iPhone it looks to be a partial collar error

I agree- looks like the coin was partially out of the collar die when struck. This is affectionately referred to as a Railroad rim. Very cool find!

Not terribly uncommon, certainly more dramatic on a reeded coin rather than a nickel or a cent. They sometimes come as a dual error partial collar and indent; in this case the collar was partially jammed for some unknown reason. Worth a few bucks at least...nice find!

I found a 2000 P and had the same issue on another forum. I was told it was rim wear even though both the obverse and reverse dies are both misaligned the same direction and the "worn" smooth area is thicker then the reed area.

That appears to also be a partial collar...

Yeah, sometimes I don't know about the other forums. This is the best one I have found to date. More folks here are more ready and willing to help, so thanks. Your coin does look similar to mine on the reeded edge.

I know all about the other forums.......which is why this is the ONLY place I hang out. We're each lucky to have the members who make this place what it is!
