    2001 D ear issue

I'm not trying to split hairs here (no pun intended) but I have looked at several other 001-D's and did not find this lump behind the ear. I see a faint outline of the lobe where I roughly marked the picture. Maybe just a stain but the lump makes it possible that it is a faint outline of a light doubling?

I believe it to be just a well-struck coin which, as a result, provides more definition than usual. I looked at a few 2001-d's (none struck extraordinarily well) and I do see on those coins faint traces of that which you have pointed out in your pic.

Let's see what others have to say, though.

Like georoxx, I believe it is just well struck...I have also seen this "lump" but after searching and looking at a few more, don't think it is out of the ordinary.
