Hi there.

Extra material on Abe's nose. It's a CUD-like appearance, but what caused this? Crack, somehow..?

All guesses and analyses welcome.

Thanks for looking.

I'm guessing struck thru grease.

I thought that if it was struck through (anything), the result would be incuse. Whatever caused this left an excess (raised) material.

Maybe that's the only part of the die that did not have grease... This is strange... I wonder what the pros will say!!!

I really don't know what it is. Maybe old Abe had a nose job that didn't heal too well.

Abe was a life guard when he posed for this.

I just noticed (after taking another look at the pic I posted) that the upper lip looks affected as well. (No ideas, eh..? Love a good mystery..!)

The games afoot... Bob and Rock don't know what it is... LOL... Maybe Mike Diamond!!!

I'm really not sure what kind of anomaly this is. My guess would be some kind of die deformation, but such imperfections don't cleanly follow the margin of the design.

OK then. So the mystery remains unsolved... for now, anyway. (Thanks for taking a look, Mr. Diamond.)

MY logic (which may or may not be sound all of the time - LOL) tells me that this is likely not one of a kind. Maybe someone else will stumble onto another that will present some evolutionary evidence. Until then, I'm filing it in my X-Files. <smile>

Are you sure it isn't some glue on the surface? It just seems to have less luster there. May be a chip or crack I suppose. Rather strange.
