    What is this? 1979-P

Found this in the field just above the date.

For the life of me, I can't remember what it is called.

    Thanks,

Lara, no pro here, but I think its either a doodad, thingamagig, a whatsits or just a thingy. While some may lean towards a hoosits, I tend to honestly say its a doodad. Imho Tom.

Looks like a gouge or scrape in the die.

The shape of the arc (Looks same as coins rim) leans me toward a clash... And I lean pretty good until I fall of course... LOL... Are there any other marks on the coin that could be used for alignment???

I see a nice scatch on the coin...or is it raised and the picture is just playing tricks with me ?

I'm thinking PSD. Bag mark, hit of some kind?

If it's not post mint damage, it might be strike through (with no retention)....I'm just guessing, of course.

The area is raised and without other corresponding areas to view it is hard to call it a clash but this is NO PSD. I yield to the pros.

The rest of the coin looks fine and dandy normal for a circulated coin.

Yes it is raised, Lucien thank you for advocating for me whilst in my absence lol. Too exhausted from work today/night to take more pictures, but when I get a chance tomorrow night I will try my best for my gang.

                  I'm pooped.

                  Thanks y'all.
