Hi,
I was searching through bank rolls when I found this cent
with a problem with the shoulder. I tried different light sources
to try to get the best picture of it. How do I classify this
cent?

Doesn't really take on the look of a plating blister, but that's all I've got.

Okay I'm going to take a stab at it, ( But ) wait on the big dogs here because I am super new. I just like to take my best guess before it gets commented on so I can test myself.

Looks like there is alot of machine doubling in Liberty, and as far as the mark on the shoulder I would say plating bubbles???
I'm probably totally off.

Thanks for the info. Dosen't look like a plating blister to me either.
I don't have a clue. I'm really new to this and it shows. But I'm sure I'll
get better sooner or later.

This is not a blister but may be a clash remnant. I see notching on the bottom of LIBERTY so that might be a doubled die obverse. Could I see an isolated pic of the date as well. Thanks for sharing.

If it is not a blister of some sort, it would have to be a huge gouge of some sort. Have you tried carefully pressing the anomaly with the end of a toothpick or something like that? Maybe extra metal scraped off the shoulder?

I have to go along with "Die Gouge" if it is not a gaseous bubble.

Hi Bob,
I Tried the tooth pick thing and it didn't feel mushy
or it didn't deflate. Thanks for the your help.

Are these Die Gouges worth saving or are they trash?

There is a mark next to the buldge on the 1st pic posted... With that I am leaning toward PSD w/metal displacement... Of course the the glare does not help... Is it possible to get better pics including the dat, motto and LIBERTY... I ask because it appears to be a DD but I can not really tell... If you are unable get better pics then maybe consider sending it in for an in hand inspection... Shiney coins are some of the most difficult to get pics of!!!

I was leaning toward large plating bubbles. Could be a die gouge too. It is not PSD. The doubling you are seeing is the glare of the light.

Thanks,
I guess I'll put it in 2x2 and save it along with other coins.
I really don't know where to send this coin. I sent 5 coins to John
Wexler to have him look at. I'm waiting to hear from him. Thanks again guys
