This is the first penny I found with these marks, so I am hoping this is Doubled Die on the year. the camera is hard to capture it but under my magnifying glass you can clearly see the "doubled die?" on both 9's.

here are some pics, what do you think? Thank you much! :tinysmile_hmm_t:

This doubling is from die deterioration or pushed plating. Pretty common for cents from this era. No premium for it.

Nope ,that is what we call a plating issue that is found on many of the zinc cents. The copper tends to push away from the devices much like a wave and creates this ghostly looking doubling.

Don't get down on your searching though. With all the posting and searching you must be doing lately, you are going to find a true doubled die soon. I can feel it in my bones. You just need to keep up the good work and you will find one really soon. Good luck

Thanks, I'm not giving up anytime soon. Although, after not reading posts on this forum for one day and having 182 unread to catch up on, it's a bit overwhelming like the new pile of pennies to go though lol.

Is this just damage to the coin or am i seeing a Ghost "S" under the "D" mark?

Karah

The year 1990 put an end to the hand punched mint-marks and therefor ended the era of RPMs and OMMs. Unfortunately. :(

I think what you are seeing is probably plating issues along with a well placed die gouge.

Karahbell: I see a plating issue with the coin as discussed in previous posts. Keep them coming and real soon you will have a nice DDO/DDR being found.
