Came across this 1952 cent that has a double wheat ear on the right side only. Is this something new or common? This is newbie here just getting into error coins. Wouldn't know what attribution to even give it. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Leslie

HI Leslie, The wheat ear is not doubled but has a die crack running through it which makes it look like it's being seperated. It's a nice die crack also.

OK what am I missing here... There are 10 strands across the wheat stock normally... This one has 12!!!

The wheat ear is complete and looks like a partial one beside it. Check out the last picture once again and see what you think. It is very clean and doesn't look like it's been 'hit'.
And where do ya'll see a die crack? Looks like just a scratch to me. Oh well, dummie here. Duh!

Let's not look for more here than what we see. The discolored metal, and the odd shape of the upper wheat ear shows plainly that it took a hit, just as coinman suggests.

Disregard my previous post... LOL... Looking at it again I was able to see the 10 strands and the outer piece to the east is a displaced chunk of metal from the hit!!!

Definitely looks like some one is abusing Lincoln to me. Lol
Nice find though, keep looking that close and you will find a real variety soon.

Ooops. I think it's time I took a break. I went back to the pics again after all these posts and can see the hit as clear as day. Must be getting tired or rushing thru these posts to much. Sorry gang. I need to just read for a while and lay off the posting.

Lol, we have all been ther. Looking at these pics all the time can make you see things that just aren't there or maybe that you are hoping are there. It happens to me all the time when I am searching. I get all excited and then look again for a second and third time and figure out is was nothing to begin with. Keep posting, we all enjoy them
