I may be totally off base, and am just beginning in collecting. I am trying to understand Close and Wide AM - I found this today and was wondering if it was a Close AM on a 1999D -

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post. My older son just took the Coin Collecting merit badge in Boy Scouts and we have had a great time learning about coin collecting.

Best,

Mark

Welcome to the forum!

It looks like a normal CAM to me (and it should be a CAM).
I have a thread on WAMs and CAMs HERE (http://www.lincolncentresource.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6022).

And here is an illustration that might help:

The proof issues (S, from San Fran) and business strikes (no MM or D from Philly or Denver) have slightly different reverses in 1999. There were a few instances where dies meant for one or the other appear to have been mixed up creating two desirable error/varieties: a 1999-P with a WAM and a 1999-S with a CAM. It would be interesting to see a 1999-D with a WAM, but none have yet to surface.
