View Full Version : Error MDD | Triple Date and MM
Looks like a triple strike to me..
How does just the Date and Mint Mark get this mechanical tripling but nothing else on the obverse. This can't be an Over date as it's not possible right?

Mechanical doubling damage or Strike damage can result from a mechanical problem during the striking of a planchet by the jarring or shifting of the die out of it's correct position and can be very minor or strong in the shift. This can result in just a small area up to most of the coin showing the shift in a shelf like appearance. The multiple appearance would be caused by an added chatter effect during the strike.
I believe I stated this correctly. Any other opinions????????

I'm not sure why the entire coin is not doubled, but I know that Machine Doubling does not usually show on all devices. The date usually shows the Machine Doubling the best.
