This is a 1923 Lincoln with multiple rims.
I haven't been able to find out at what point in the minting process an 'error' like this would occur. Can anyone help me out with that information?

I've seen this before on newer coins, all denominations. I don't know what it is for sure. The ones like this i see are usually a little thicker than the average coin too.

I believe it's called a collar clash.

What you have is a Mis-aligned Die Strike-MAD. Yours pictured is an Obverse Mis-aligned with a normal reverse. In "The Error Coin Encyclopedia 4th ED by Margolis and Weinberg on page 352 you can find a picture of a Jefferson nickel with a MAD. Yours pictured is a minor MAD however still collectible.

Below I have attached a Major MAD that are hard to find in circulation.

Thanks everyone, you have all been really good helpers.
I was thinking MAD (misaligned die), but thought it odd that it have more than what appears to be more than one strike.

Great MAD 1sgret has there. I sure haven't found any that good. Thanks for the book name gret... I will check into it and see if I can find a copy. One cannot have too many reference books when one needs them.

I very much appreciate all of you!

Thank You! Try Koinpro.com (Ken Potter's site) for the book. It's believe it's already out of print however you may find a copy on e-bay (used) for sale. A really good reference book for minting process and errors. Lots of detail and pics. Joe

Hopefully... considering internet sites and my being not at all completely trusting of the same... I found one and ordered it last evening. We will see when/if it arrives.
Thanks again Joe.
