Went through some wheaties yesterday that I had accumulated over the years and came across this one. Now this one should be about as easy as it gets to identify, but I am notoriously bad at attributing varieties. Had I not first discovered a 1956d-1mm-001 this may have slipped under the radar. But having first found that it really sparked my interest in checking all the 56's. Especially since its the first time that I am confident that I attributed anything :) Besides the shadow D under and slightly to the right of the normal D, the only other die marker that I know to verify it, is the die gouge that runs across the shoulder. It has that, although it is slightly weaker than the one pictured on coppercoins. So if someone would please just confirm that this is actually the 008 variety, I would appreciate it. Also if you would like, I will take pics of the 001 for the fun of it. That one however is almost unmistakable to misidentify. Thanks!

Edit-Its and RPM not OMM

I'm not sure the pics are close enough for us to confirm anything other than the location looks pretty good for either 008 or 024

Hi
Looks like a rpm-008. Only the early strikes showed the whole d. Most I've seen have a weak d.
Cool / rare rpm

Thanks for your replies! This gives me a new push of ambition to continue the search! I was starting to question whether I would ever find anything. If I did I wasn't so sure I would be able to identify it. I now know its possible :D

I definitely see the RPM to the south, looks like RPM #8 but without comparing mintmark placement I can't be certain that it's not RPM #17. Either way, it's a great find!

Yup, this is 1956D-1MM-008, also known as RPM-008. These are very nice, and pretty scarce. I know that having been through hundreds of rolls of 1956D cents, I have only found about a dozen of them - this makes them pretty tough to find!
