I am posting this because of the questions posed about Jean's coin (1960D). This coin was posted quite awhile ago and there were 2 experts that differed in opinion, I am not qualified to choose sides so have always wondered what exactly is it classed as...Strike thru or Lamination. Would be nice to know how to label it correctly.

Lamination would be my theory.

The above is a Lamination of the Planchet prior to striking. That is why the Lincoln design is weak and distorted in places. Another way to tell is by the weight of the coin. If it were a struck thru it would weigh the same as another coin of that year. A Lamination decreases the weight of the coin due to metal loss or peeling of the layer. The weight of your coin shown should be 3.11 Grams or 48.00 Grains without the devoid area being absent.
