This is a 1997-P Lincoln 1C which is classified as a "Finned Coin". The cause is excessive space between the die shaft and the collar. It is due to either a smaller than normal die shaft, or a larger than normal collar diameter. Either cause will result in excessive space between the die shaft and the collar, allowing coin metal to squeeze during the strike.

This coin exhibits a thin shell of metal extending beyond the normal thickness of the coin around the rim. This example is about 1/16" higher.

Sort of funny looking, but still a really nice coin.

Actually you can feel the difference over time that the rim is raised higher. I have no example like this but sometimes the feel of a coin will pay off over time.

The rim on this one is sharp and extends way above the fields of the coin. Alot of error dealers call these "over pressure strikes." I understand that not too much study has been done on this error.
You can find them on the auction site once in awhile for around $15-$30. Nice item to add to a collection of errors.
