This 91d has something on the rim. Could it be a dropped letter or is it post mint damage?:squigglemouth:

Looks like an 8...but how could that be?

Believe it or not, it is considered post mint damage. It is a design transfer through contact with another coin. This is happening quite often on the presidential dollars.

PS - I did presume that the anomaly was indented. If it is raised ------- well that is a different story!

Mainly due to the sixe of the "Ballistic Bags" use to transfer the coins. They have to be moved with a fork lift they are so large. I read one time how many pennies were in a bag (By Weight) but can't remember. So much weight will transfer the design of one coin to another.

Guess they are right Jeremy, but that doesn't lessen the status of 'cool coin'.
Nice!

Thanks BJ, Joe & JeanK. It might be damage and only worth a penny, but it's not going back to the bank.:D

That's the spirit Jeremy!

While I find deceptively altered coins appalling, this type of post mint damage is neat and it could fit right in with the odd and curious machine doubling collection. Good idea to keep it Jeremy.

I agree with BJ. Nice example piece or study piece.
