Does this look like the FS-012 to you? I found it in circulation. It's in great shape considering the date.

I was happy to see the date 1909. Then I turned it over... I was even more happy to see VDB. Then I looked a little closer, I got out the books. Now I'm turning to you guys. I like what I'm hearing so far.

Circulation as--From store or given in Change?

Pulled from a roll of circulated cents I got in a $25 sealed N.F String & Sons box from the bank. I usually pick up a box each Saturday morning. They expect me each week. If I don't show up on any given Saturday they always miss me and ask me where I was last week. I've got a good thing going. I don't know how much longer it will last but I'm going to go with it while I can.

It's the same place I found each of the other coins in my album, "a work in progress".

What are you thinking for a grade on this one David.

I would say vf-30...
but grading is not my strong point.

I can find the errors and varieties I just can't photograph or grade them very well yet.

I took some photos of the coin. I will post them here so all my friends here at LCR can give their opinion as to the grade. I took so many photos in fact that I have to recharge the batteries in my camera before it will let me transfer them to my computer. Stand by and visit back later to see the photos and post your opinions as to grade. Thanks.

I tend to be a little conservative when grading my own coins. What would you guys grade this coin?

It is a little blurry, but I would say XF-40. Grading is not my strong point either. There is a green spot under Liberty and another spot between the R and U in trust. If you send this into ANACS you may get a "details" grade.

This is certainly an awesome find.

Do you think it's worth having it graded/slabbed?

The 1909 V.D.B. DDO 1 is a very popular doubled die. PCGS lists an EF at $100. I would say a VF is worth about $60. The problem is that it costs at least $17 to get the coin certified by ANACS. However, if you ever decided to sell it, you will do a lot better if it is certified. I guarantee that it is the correct variety, but certifying it is up to you. Remember, that the coin my get a "details" grade.
