Hi,

I'm Bill I live in New Jersey and have very recently started collecting again. I found a big container of cents that were untouched since the mid 1980s, and was searching through them and found an interesting 1969-D.

I found about 25 69-Ds in said container, however 1 of them has the mintmark shifted slightly to the left and there's also substantial space between the "D" and the 1969, the space between them is about the same size, if not larger than the mintmark itself.

The mintmark also seems very slightly smaller than the other coins that I have.

I'm working on getting a picture of it as we speak.

Did I find anything here or no?

Thanks!

Bill

The picture will help Bill, but there are a few things that may help answer the question. Mint marks were still punched by hand in 1969. Subsequently, any place under the date, and even tilted a little bit would be considered normal. As far as the mint mark being slightly smaller, we have no knowledge of different size mint mark punches being used for this year.

Thanks guys! Still working on getting an acceptable picture, but from looking through my loupe the mint mark does appear slightly smaller.

I'll see if I can get pictures online tonight.
