This post is #973 for me. There will be three categories. Start time is 12:00AM EST 15 Mar 2012. End time is when I hit #1000.

Categories:

1) First person to private message me after my 1000th post.

2) Funniest eBay listing that is in some way selling a penny. This listing must be listed between the start and end time. I will judge which is the funniest. It could be worded funny, a funny product (like that toilet seat made of pennies), etc. You can't make your own listing. One entry per member. Just make me laugh.

3) Best story about a specific time that you benefitted from the knowledge brought forth by the community of LCR. In other words, write a story on something you learned from LCR (include details like who taught you, the thread you learned from, etc.), and when you applied that knowledge and found something.

Prizes:

a nice 1960's RPM
1972P-1DO-003
2000 Wide AM
A 2006P DDO (not #17 or 18, but not a minor one either)
2011P-1DO-008
Prisoner Cent

Rules:

1) Each category winner will receive 2 coins, listed below. I will randomly determine who gets what by pulling names from a hat.

2) Members may enter all three categories, but can only win one category.

3) Only members with 100+ posts at the start time may win.

4) The only thing you should post to this thread are eBay listings, stories and if you have questions. BUT, you are certainly allowed to post anything else in a post that contains an eBay listing, story, or question.

This is going to be great fun! Good luck everyone!

Alright, here's a funny ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1936-Wheat-Penny-ERROR-EXTREMELY-RARE-FIND-RARE-/190649279665?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2c639524b1#ht_500wt_1204

I like how he says "I promise the mark is not from a #2 pencil :LOL_Hair:

A cool story I have is that over President's week break I went down to Florida to visit relatives. I visited my dads cousin, who knew that I was into coins. Upon arrival, he suggested we go through his old collection of coins. Unfortunately, many of these coins that he has were the "special commemorative coins" that you will see ads for in National Geographic, etc, which I am sure I have been told on the forum to never do, because it's all hype. He was pretty disappointed when I told him the market calues and warned him against giving in to coin ads in non-coin magazines :sign10: However, the next day he brought out a large safe that he had not opened in at least 25 years. Inside were the coins he collected during his childhood that he had not looked at since then. I kid you not, he started to tear up as he looked at buffalo nickels, lincoln cents, and foreign coins that he collected when he was 9 and 10. I thought it was a very special moment.

Anyways, thats all I have, looking forward to seeing stories from other members and good luck to all!

Coop and Lucien,

I think you may have misread one of the categories. The contest is not to post when you think I will reach #1000, but the first person to private message me after I hit #1000. So 3/26/12 doesn't really pertain to anything here. Just saying so others don't get confused. I appreciate the participation though. Thanks!

Quick questions are we limited to only posting one ebay link or can we do multiples?

You can post as many eBay listings as you want, but you can only submit one as your entry. Same with stories.

Cimperialis's 1000th post contest - Story
Thanks for the contest and congrats on the soon to be 1000th.

I guess my story is more about guidance and advice rather than confirming a discovery. Being a newbie in the coin collecting and searching world and having not found anything of any consequence after searching countless boxes of bank rolls Bob P. gave some advice not just to me but to the forum. Bob stated that it isn't the number of coins you search it is the quality of the search is that counts and also remember you are only looking for a handful of coins in a billion. It just takes time. That is the jest of the advice, but that did renew my attitude and hopes towards collecting and searching these little, copper beauties we call cents.

Here's my story:

My neighbor sells pizza and gets a jar full of change. I say to him. It is of no use sitting there in the house. I take it and search for any error coins. He doesn't mind and gives it all to me. I said "My Reward is the Cents",you can have all the nickles, dimes and quarters then I will take it to the bank for him. What a great deal. I have found a few errors and doubled dies. That's what I call OBSESSED.

The only specific thing I can think of is how Chris posted a contest to guess what the 1972 DDO #4 would go for last year. I couldn't believe it and made it a goal to find one after I saw that auction. So all I can say is thanks Chris for giving me the incentive...and I really wonder if I would have just stuck it in a bowl for attribution "some day" if it hadn't been for him bringing it to my attention.

That's the story!!!!!! Teared up!!!! special moment!!!! Tell us the rest. You knocked him out, cleaned out the safe and stuck his body in it to make up for the weight loss. Then you told everyone he went fishing out in the ocean and you told everyone you told him to take a life vest but he said he is a good swimmer and doesn't need it. You took all those MD's you had laying around and stuffed them in his pockets before he left for fishing right. Now that's a story.

Just a comment, this Forum and its members, has been the most important and life changing part of my life. Such a simple hobby(?) such simple people. Last year at this time was the lowest part of my life in two decades. Almost lost it all, home , business, my dog Rocket. It was dismall. All the Prayers, all the wellwishes, both seen and unseen, all the coin help , I am just in awe. You are all the best( way to many names to mention) you all have changed my life and I will always remain eternally greatfull! :tinysmile_classes_t Tom

You need to understand that there are more than two people on this forum. Some of your comments are inappropriate by anyone's standards. You want to chat about coins, we are here for you. Maybe you should consider what this forum is about before you make some of the statements you do. A bit of humor is fine, but think carefully before you post your comments.

Ok y'all. I just made my 1000th post on the noble 2011 DDO #6 and #8. It's now time to announce the winners!

1st to PM after #1000- Simonm. He will receive a 1972P-1DO-003 and a 1960D RPM.

Funniest eBay listing- Amadauss. I thought the negligible amount of pennies you could fit into that bank was pretty funny. He will receive a 2000 Wide AM and a prisoner cent.

Best story- wapa. He did a nice job telling about a specific time and saying what exactly he learned from LCR. He will receive a 2011P-1DO-008 and a 2006P DDO.

Congrats to all for finding this hobby and forum!
