Error Other | Satin to Gloss Cent

Hi Guys,

Last night I found this 2007 D, I thought it was dipped in polyurithane or something but it actually is half satin and half gloss on the obverse ( wrong terminoligy most likley lol). Anyway the reverse also has a couple of these areas. What is strange is where it transitions from satin to gloss it actually is inverse without any disruption to the letters. Anybody ever seen or know what this is called? (And please don't say a vise job). Sorry for the marginal pix, I get my new Am Scope next week.

I want to say it has been messed with. Cannot explain how it was fooled with, nor how it would be some sort of planchet error...

I don't understand why the gloss areas (if it was dipped or something) is not the raised portions of the coin. insted it is the reverse. The clash looking area on the reverse is not raised either.

I put saliva on the coin and it turned darker in color. I have it set aside as a test piece. It's 2 over a year old now and looks the same. But that is probably what happened to you coin.

Yours looks transitioned where as mine has a solid line separating the 2 areas...I must say the shades are right on though. SALIVA YUK!

You've got glue all over your coin, have you tried some acetone, I'm not kidding.

"Winner winner chicken dinner"...liveand die hit it right on the head. I gave it an acetone bath, wiped it down and now it's just a 2007. The junk to the top right of the memorial (I think) must have been the super glue top.

Looks like I got to the party late. I recognized it as clear lacquer on the coin immediately. I doubt it was glue.

Guess we'll never know the composite of the contaminant now Chuck. Or maybe we can do a spectral analysis of the cotton swab he used to remove it... Please keep me posted on this.

Well chris I licked it and it wasn't syrup, so I rubbed it with acetone and "Bam" gone.
