Below is a side by side of 1983 DDR-002 in early die state and then a mid die state. In between there was at least one clashed dies event. All of the MDS markers seem to be tied to a polishing post-clash. The only real markers they share are some little die scratches in bay 1 (black arrows).
What I would like to see is the die clash produced; an in-between stage. That would be awesome. On the obverse of the MDS you can see remnants of the bays that clashed across Lincoln. If anyone thinks they found one with clash marks, PM me.
EPU is weak on both examples, so I did not get a great shot. Markers don't mean you have a particular variety, and I'll bet there are '83s with similar polish marks that are not this nice DDR.
On a final note, I find that this DDR, as nice at it is, can be a little hard to see if the light comes from the wrong place. 1982 DDO-001 is like that. Catch it from one side and the doubling sings, from the other direction you might miss it. ONE is easiest to see and find, UNITED is a tricky area.
