Here is a rarely illustrated class I that DCW sent for me to photograph and do analysis on: 1970-D DDO-001. Below I have juxtaposed key areas next to a normal 1970. While the example is LDS and does not show deep separation lines, the extra thickness and some notching remain. The key pick up point for this DDO is the L in LIBERTY. Stage C shows the remnants of die clashing above the date.

Detail and whole coin shots follow. ...And I will be posting DDO-008 in a post below that is similar to DDO-007.

Here is DDO-008 (WDDO-007), again belonging to Dennis. Pick up point is that L again.

From what I can tell, 1970-D DDOs 7 & 8, 1970-S 1DO-016, 1970 DDO-001 and 1971 DDO-004 all have nice, yet hard to detect, class I spreads when they pass EMDS and harder as they reach LDS. Circulation will probably also make it difficult. The LIB is the area to concentrate on, then the motto.

The separation lines are even harder to detect on 008.

Very well done and a very difficult variety to pick up on or see on a circulated coin. Sharp eyes everyone. Thanks Jason.

Great photos, Jay. I got these from a fellow collector who was selling a large collection a few years back. Lots of strong but virtually unknown varieties. Thanks for posting these.
