Hi Guys,

While going through a handful of pennies I stuffed into a box as a kid, I came across a 1937P that looks like it might be one of the DDR varieties from that year...or, maybe it's just from die deterioration and I should take off these rose-colored-glasses. I took some pics...let me know what you all think.

I was really hoping so; thanks, hasfam. Funny...that penny has been sitting in a box of oddball coins for over 20 years now. I didn't even bother to check it as a kid since the only varieties I was aware of at that time were the few that were actually listed in the Red Book. After getting back into it recently, I have been absolutely blown away by how many doubled die varieties actually exist.

Nice DDR find there! Looks like 1937-1dr-002 from here, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks, Chugly. I'm thinking it's the -002 variety as well. Coppercoins shows a slew of northeast to southwest running die scratches inside the "C" in CENTS and my coin has the same.

A familiar story by many of us. Congrats again.

Nice class VI DDR! If it has a matching marker on coppercoins.com I would say that you've got it.
