1972: DDO-002 (FS-102) & DDO-007 (FS-107)
SIDE BY SIDE

1972 doubled die obverses 002, 004, 005 and 007 all have CCW (counterclockwise) class I (rotated) spreads. That means the direction of the lightest hubbing to deepest hubbing.

Die 002 and 007 are the most similar and are often confused as one or the other. If anything, it's die 007 that is erroneously identified as being 002 or 004, probably as the premium for 002 and 004 is greater. There is no excuse for 007 being labeled 004, but 002 is understandable to a degree. Below I have illustrations showing the two, 007 (left) & 002 (right) side by side.

The big 007 die markers are the die dot in the lips and the gouge below the B in VDB near the rim. Beyond that it comes down to a comparison of the doubling, for which 002 is stronger in all areas. Note that one 002 maker is noted, a gouge on the lapel.

----------------------------------------007- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 002
