As I have been looking for info on buying a low power/stereo microscope I found this info, maybe it will help other beginners in understanding the different power lens etc, it does not show a 5x but it shows what a 10x, 15x, 20x, 30x, 40x looks like when viewing a coin.

the camera resolution is not the best but the example on magnification is good.

Good find. That should be an excellent tool for helping beginners to understand just what (x)x magnification looks like.

I've used that site before to look up information on lenses and like it. Their page http://www.microscopeworld.com/resource%20library.aspx has some good basic scope terminology and helpful information. Thanks for the link and reminding me.

But what brand and model digital microscope would folks recommend for under a hundred dollars?
Thanks
