    reading mikedimand thread on the 99 wanted to see if this what he was caling finning ? i ask a lot of questions bur first hand experince is better thanks

            I've seen these through the years, but never saved them. On the Zincolns they usually split the plating and it's just a matter of time after that happens.

                This is called finning and can be found on just about all denominations. I have enclosed two pictures. The first is of a Canadian token that has a rather exaggerated fin. The second is of two 1999-P Jefferson nickels that have wide edges caused by high pressure strikes. They are the two outer nickels.

                  I have pics of an exaggerated example of a finned rim on a 1979-D Lincoln cent. It was Fred Weinberg's, and at the ANA show in Philly.

                      I actually found one of these today. Funny thing is the obverse actually looks like a struck through grease, along with some MD. I'll post a photo later.
