I have this 1928S wheat that has very little luster left but has pretty good details. I want to grade it AU-53 by looking above Lincoln's ear and a high XF for the cheek/jaw wear and the reverse has a weak strike area on top but the detail looks like a high XF but it is really dirty. I'm assigning it a XF-45 but wondering if it could be a AU-50? Opinions?
Thanks in advance, David
Yeah. AU for me too. Some of those were matte-like. I cant see what the spots are though. Corrosion? Probably---(seen from the photos.) Slabbed might get a 'Genuine" with AU details.
Those spots are black carbon spots. I don't see any corrosion. They actually stand out in the pictures more than is readily visible. Thanks for the replies so far; I'm hoping to get a couple more before I mark the best answer.
I'm going to say AU-55, I can understand how a flip can distort a coin. If you drop it in an acetone bath, maybe you can dissolve those spots. Either way I think you have an AU coin at worst.
I agree with Maggers, mid grade AU, no better. I don't see anything that would cause this coin to get a Genuine holder (other than the bad judgement necessary to spend $50 slabbing a $12 coin).
