Hi I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. Wondering if this was an RPM? Thanks, have been picking cents for wheats and recently learned about varieties. Appreciate any help, Greg

Yes, looks like it is 1MM-001. Go look here to confirm with markers. http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1968&die_id=1968d1mm001&die_state=mds

but one question: You know what your name means in German?

Don't listen to him. That's a very tough find. You'll fetch way more than a buck for it if you're selling.

So what do you think the value is? Hasfam you had one that appeared to be MS63ish Red raw sell for $24. We cannot see this whole coin, but judging from the inner rim and hits on the digits, this one would be VF, maybe low XF. Just curious.

Here is the most recent one on Teletrade in MS62 Brown for $21 http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=3379&lot=1219

Another one before that in MS64 RB for $12 http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=3322&lot=1244

Both of those are PCGS slabbed examples. This one the OP is showing is raw, and no where near MS.

You're right. I shouldn't have interfered and expressed my opinion 'out loud'. My apologies. On the other hand, I think a desire to purchase the coin might have have been better via a PM. My thinking was that the OP might be a new collector which prompted me to respond the way I did, which I know was the wrong thing to do publicly. Again, my apologies.

I do not feel as if you are interfering. I simply wanted to know why you thought it was worth more than $3. I am in the process of working on a project on values of varieties , mainly raw values. You sell lots of them and have had a lot of experience. You obviously feel this coin is worth more than $3. I want to know how you came up with that opinion. I shared where I came up with my $3 valuation. I think it is great that you have an opinion. I just want to know more about that opinion is all. Just another part of the education process.

This was a nice find.

I think in the future a members coin's value should not be discussed unless they ask for a value.

I would rather this not turn into an argument.

Brad, I am not trying to start an argument here. Value of coins is as much apart of this hobby as the varieties themselves. Like coin grading, it can be a matter of opinion. My hope is to understand where people get the value they place on a variety. There have been many discussions on the matter, but I have not heard anything with substance in regards to values. Hasfam is one of the top forum members when it comes to selling varieties. To me this means he has a real hand on the pulse of values. I am simply wanting him to share his experience.

Thank you everyone. After filling 10 Whitman folders looking just for dates this is much more exciting (and a better return on investment)! I've purchased 2 microscopes for my 10 year old son and I and found a 98 wide am last night. Looking forward to the 99 variety. My son and I were setting aside coins we called "Reds and Rainbows" and this was among them. Thank you so much for the info (I did read a Lincoln Penny Resource book over the weekend and will try to quickly move beyond the Newbie Stage), Appreciate your patience and Help :) Greg

I got to thinking-

I recalled that I'd done very, very well on AUs of this variety, PCGS slabbed. Perhaps you forgot to post the AU examples that have sold when you were sharing the low grade MS pieces to bolster your point Sean.

Here's a price history of AU COINS: http://www.teletrade.com/coins/search.asp?issubmit=1&nodefault=1&wantsid=0&searchid=0&pguide=1&searchpast=1&backto=1660&s_ispaper=0&s_isnonusa=0&s_yearmin=1968&s_yearmax=1968&s_mint=D&s_overdate=&s_grademin=53+%28AU%29&s_grademax=58+%28AU%29&s_proof=Either&s_ispcgs=1&s_isngc=1&s_isanacs=1&s_anacshold=All&s_isicg=1&s_isncs=1&s_onlytoned=&s_keywords=FS-501&button=Search&s_d3=1
Not a single one of them has sold for less than $50, including the $170 I got for an AU58 earlier this year.
