Just picked up another large wheat stash. I came across this 1951-S. Most likely the anomaly on the mint mark is damage. So what is protruding from the 5? Large die gouge maybe? Any thoughts?

The coin has an odd texture around the date...are those strong flow lines or damage?

I believe they are flow lines. Just inside the rim all they way around the coin are small lines less than a millimeter apart. Looks almost like a tape measure with all the little lines. The same appears all along the backside of Lincoln.
