It has been a few years (I think) since I found the first of these. This is the only other one I've found since then. I believe there were a total of 5 found back then. I guess this is #6. I'd like it to be in better shape but was pleasantly surprised anyway. I'll let others voice the contorversy about this variety.

I have a hard time believing this one is a legit ddo. The shape of the "ear" is spock-like. What caused this? I have no idea

Wexler explained his theory regarding how this might have happened but I don't fully remember now and I do not want to misquote him.

Yeah its definitely a controversial coin but nice find. Would a grading company slab it as a ddo?

Crawford had one slabbed. Don't remember exactly what tag was on it.

It sure is an interesting coin. Is it a DDO? Maybe. But it is an interesting specimen nonetheless. Thanks for sharing, George!

Wasn't that one discovered by Wendell ( doubleyou). ? I remember that was his avatar for awhile.

I don't know which came first, the chicken or the egg. I posted mine first on this forum. Wendell sent his to Wexler but did not post it here until Wexler needed an other example for diagnosis and attribution. Wendell then posted a picture here and asked if anyone had seen one. When I responded and sent mine to Wexler, he did diagnose them as DDOs. I don't know when Wendell found his and it does not matter to me if I was first or second. Wexler credits both of us with the submission.

I have a large bucket full of 83's I've been setting aside every time I search so that I may one day take my time looking them over. That day may be sooner than later now. Congrats, nice find!
