Just started on the $25 box of pennys I picked up today from the bank and wow out of 5 rolls only 34 are pre 82 which is terrible for me!

Any one have this bad luck before?

I'll take that bad luck! I prefer to search zinc cents so that'd be good luck for me! :)
I have had a similar experience going both ways though. I've had a brick that 98% of the brick was pre-1981 and then a brick that about 98% were only 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, & 2002. All of which I consider to be lucky rather than unlucky! :D

Just my preference. Plus I think I have a better chance of finding what I'm looking for since no one hoards zinc cents which might be all in my head. ;) There are also a lot of valuable coins from 1982-present and they usually aren't very worn. Got to deal with the occasional zinc rot but for the most part the coins are usually in decent condition.

All of these are junky even the newer ones =[

I'll tell you something, the first 2013 Cent I found in March was corroded already! These new ones rot out pretty fast if they are exposed to anything....

This is why you should collect post 1982 high grade zinc coins and store them away carefully. They are getting harder to find as time passes. I like to get a good mix of both copper and zinc coins.

I also prefer zincs. I've had a few boxes of customer wrapped rolls before, and usually have better than average finds. CUDs, WAMs, RDVs, doubled dies, etc.

Another vote for zincs, the copper usually just goes into the bucket because it's junk. It's rare that I find a nice copper but I find some killer zincs.

I Like the copper for the value have $25 face so far saved up! I just found a 1972 S clipped in decent shape first decent find so far.

I only check the post 82 for things like WAM,CAM and RPM's of the few dates that I know.

You should really be checking for a lot more. Check out the beginners section of the forum for a basic list.

I concur with what Antiquity said:

There are some great and some very rare zinc doubled dies to look for! Also the transitional varieties for 1988. On the other hand... I'd buy your "searched" zinc cents! :LOL_Hair: But really, you're only cheating yourself out of some amazing finds by limiting what you're looking for to a very small list. This is why I look at every coin. It may take a little extra time, but you have to touch it to toss it so you might as well look at it. :sign10:

I checked that list out and it just gives the date and name of which it is and no pictures to see where they are at.

Could be a possibility on selling you the zincs.

If any one could link me to the basic list I would really appreciate it!

Coppercoins (http://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php) - I use this website the most. It will give you pictures of the variety, pictures of markers to verify being minted with the same die, and a general idea of what the coin may be worth to another collector.
