I'll bet you guys thought I ran off with my tail between my legs after my last post...(I might get discouraged, but I never give up):~. Actually, my computer was having fits: it BSOD'd me at least half a dozen times after my last post. I had to completely redo my OS and I lost alot of data because of it:nerd:. Never did like Win7--a POS OS if you ask me.

Anyway, my question to any and all who might read this--I've read many posts (here as well as other sites) and seen quite a number of pictures about 1972-P, S, and D doubled die OBVERSE pennies. Has anyone ever found or ever heard of a 1972 doubled die REVERSE, and if so where can I find photos of this particular variety, if it even exists?

Coppercoins doesn't list any. In Wexler's latest publication I see no mention of any. Do you have images?

I have not heard of a '72 DDR being listed by anyone. I would think the chances of a proof showing up with a class II DDR is better than a business strike based on the era. Not many people look at the reverse of either business strikes or proofs.

I can only find 1 reference to a 72 ddr anywhere,,with no pic and questionable if it exists ... No to Wexler,Potter, Flynn, Crawford, Breen, Lange, or Yeoman/Bressett. Just 1 book " The Complete Lincoln Cent Encyclopedia" by Shane M. Anderson... 1972 doubled rev. die ..listed as very rare compared to the 1972 ddo varieties... but I have found errors with the info in this book and have never been able to contact the author....at this time I discount that listing and agree no known 1972 p,d,or s ddrs.

Unless I'm mistaken the only major DDR is the 1983 DDR. I also look for the 1964 DDR when I roll hunt, but that's hardly as major as the 1983.

To answer your question though I've never heard of a 1972 DDR.

There are no pics...it was just a general question. So more than likely, if no one has ever reported one then it probably doesn't exist. Or am I going too far in that assumption?

I wouldn't discount the possibility that they exist. There are new varieties being reported every day, some on coins over 60 years old! I think what is important to note is that no 1972 DDRs have been reported and as such have not been evaluated to see if they are worthy of being in one of the listing systems. It is quite possible they may exist.

CONECA lists a DDR for 1972-D, but it is the only one for the year.

Another one to look for is the 1982 DDR, only a few known and worth more than the others:

Oh yes I forgot to mention that; I also look for this one.

I believe I remember Wexler listing a minor DDR for a 1972 cent a few years back in his Uncommon Cents column in NCADD's The Hub. I'll have to dig into that stack of newsletters to see if my memory isn't fading. I think it was a minor class II DDR, but I can't remember, and I could be totally wrong :squigglemouth:.
