Here's another test...

Real or fake? Original or rewrap?

Does anyone have info on the Bowser company? This roll, like many others, uses Bowser wrappers. I'm doubtful Bowser was in business in 1939 but have no data on them.

The seller doesn't state anything about the age of the rolls so it probably only helps point toward the 39-S roll being fake. What I'd like to find out is when was Bowser founded...

I believe they were original, but it was hard to tell. Those were from 1956, and I've seen enough known original 50c rolls of that era to believe Bowser was in business back then. But, were they in business in 1939???

Look at page 135 of this document. To me 1939 is feasible. http://sunnyvale.ca.gov/Portals/0/Sunnyvale/CDD/Planning/HRC%20Materials/IMAGES_Chapter_6toAcknowledgements.pdf

Interesting. Looks more feasible than I thought before. I wonder how the Bowser name got on the rolls rather than Brandt...

That was my question as well. I am unsure on that, and this is all the info I could come up with.
