I found a North Carolina Quarter , I know it's the lincoln resource center but I'd like your thoughts . I think I might have found a new VAM and if I didn't , I'm still naming it CRYING GEORGE . Any thoughts on this anomaly is appreciated . HAPPY 4TH
Looks like a chip. Weird place for this to happen.
Richard S. Cooper Some have asked about my images I use, and I'm glad to say I've completed a DVD of these. Ask if you are interested. Newer members like these.
it is a nice die chip...CRYING GEORGE... good name..BUT
VAM is an acronym for 2 men...Leroy Van Allen and A. George Mallis
it is a numbering system for Morgan and Peace dollars ...not quarters
VAM no...die chip...yes
I understand what a VAM is , die chip it may be but a really cool anomaly die chip or not . A VAM is the same thing but with peace dollars and Sliver dollar people underscore the little coins . There is no difference what's on this quarter Vs the spitting eagle as a matter of fact this crying George has it all over the spitting eagle .
OK..OK.. yes it would be the same...but you would not call it a VAM.......the spitting eagle is a chip that got a name....
a VAM is for Morgans and Peace dollars...
cohens are for 1/2 cent and large cents....
CPG is an acronym for cherry pickers guide..a list by Bill Faviz and J. T. Stanton
Wexler has his numbering system
copper coins have their own numbering system...
I mean no disrespect... I am just pointing out you would not call it a VAM
IF CPG liked this coin they MAY list it in their files and call it CRYING GEORGE
you can call it CRYING GEORGE... no problem with that and I like the coin and name..
it just wouldn't be a VAM
No disrespect at all taken , your points are well taken , It was my confusion . Thank you for your time truly . I was more or less thinking of it as a silver dollar issue . I shouldn't have done that , I should have been more intelligent about my post and gave it more thought. I got excited there and let it get the best of me . Thank you again

You're not understanding. A VAM is a NUMBERING SYSTEM. It has nothing to do with quarters. It is about DOLLARS. There are no VAMs for any denomination other than DOLLARS. VAMs can be anything from a die chip, a die scratch, a gouge, a die clash, an unusually abraded die, a rusted die and a dozen other things! A die chip on a quarter CANNOT be a VAM. A VAM is the same thing as what you show, except they're ONLY on Morgan and Peace Dollars.
