I was wanting to know if there are lathe lines around the edge of this 1936 coin? The coin also might have been cleaned. Thanks!

number 1.. are the lines raised or cut into the coin?

Having seen a few of these in person, I can pretty confidently say that they are concentric die scratches. Would love to hear what others have to say, though.

Here are some more pictures. To me they look to be raised, but I ran a toothpick across them and felt no resistance.

I don't know what caused them, but I see concentric lines on the edges of the field on wheat cents all the time. In his 1959D RPM book Wexler points out examples such as these and calls them lathe lines.

Concentric, or at the very least curving die scratches near the rims, are common in this ear of coinage. They can be strong, like what you note here.
