try putting an examination set together...
get a BU 1988,1989,1992,1993,a 1998-2000 cam and a 1998-2000 proof wam..
then compare...
if your 88 does not look like your 88 in the examine set...but looks more like your 89......
then you might have something...

and keep looking.....if they were easy to find...you would not want one...

The clam and WAMs I don't have trouble with but sometimes these initials can be tricky!

Not really sure how they can be tricky - the shape of the G is totally different between the two.

To your expert eyes yes, to my novice eyes not so obvious lol.

IF....
The "F" is more square ....reverse of 1989
the "F" center bar is weaker and points slightly up and over the "G"....reverse of 1988

the top of the "G" goes to the end of the letter or vertical bar...reverse of 1988
the vertical up bar of the "G" has a bar going down below the loop AND a bar going back into the "G"...reverse of 1989

like I said look at a 1988 and a 1989...they should look different... then put every 1988 you get in between the 2 coins..see which one it is closer to.... after awhile you will not even need the examine set

Actually I am no expert at checking for these. I have only known about them for a few years and found them to be o trouble to check over. I have never found one, but that means very little...I haven't checked all that many coins for them.

After about 10 minutes of good studying of the two different reverses, the two different fonts stick out very clearly to me.

I had trouble with these until I actually found one. Then it became clear I had been looking to hard. When you find one there will be no doubt. If you're looking at something you think is questionable then chances are it's not one.

Here is something else to check to see if it is a RDV-005 or 006:
