I cherrypicked this coin at my last coin show. I was photographing it when I noticed something odd. There is no VDB on this coin. This coin is machine doubled, and looks exactly like FS-1101.

Similar but different.
If that coin was a VDB and an inexperienced collector found it they might think it's the DDO and be discouraged when we tell them it's MD. :)

It fooled me....and yes I was discouraged. But, I think I will keep collecting :)

Very tricky. Would have been cool if it was a no-vdb DDO.

I think we saw one of these on ebay years ago. Deceptive indeed.

If I somehow make it out for the ANA show this year I would like to photograph this example.

For the sake of my continuing education; what is the interest in this coin?

I just think a note on a specific case of deceptive MD may be helpful. It also may be unneeded...

I just think it's interesting that this MD mimics the real ddo perfectly. Same thing happened to me the other day with a 1994 ddr-018. Found one in a bank roll and was about to high five my dog. It was machine doubling, but looked exactly like the variety (just shelf-like.)

You're all in good company!

I once purchased a 1909 that HAD to be from the same die press, identical doubling to yours Brad. It fooled me too.

What has also gotten me is the 09VDB with the die chips in Liberty that ISN'T the class VI doubled die.

George- that coin "shouldn't" bring any premium... but for what it is with dramatic strike doubling I believe it would sell for a decent premium when described for what it is. It's fun, but I'll save my money for a real DDO!

I was just concerned that I was missing something. I know that dramatic MD can bring a premium. I've thought about putting some up for sale, myself.

I am sending it to Jason for him to photograph
