    What constitutes a "scratch"

I have a 2014 DDO 3 that I want to send to ANACS. It has a few very light surface scratches. They can only be seen under magnification and at the right lighting angle. Would ANACS call this scratched? I know that it will affect the grade, I just don't want it to say "SCRATCHED" on the slab. I will just keep it raw if that is the case.

I'm not sure anybody can say with certainty because grading is pretty subjective. Keep in mind that they only use a 7x loupe. Personally, I wouldn't consider this damage, but others might.

If they will be able to see the scratches then it will be up to the grader to decide... It would be nice to have a set standard!!!

I have a 1992 D CLAM that they would look at the rim and the field to see if it was a put together coin... there is a light scratch from the nose to the rim.. NGC noted it
I covered up the label and had David Lange a grader at NGC look at it..
he said it was a MS coin with no problems.. when I took off the cover and showed him the label he looked again..
he said "oh yes it has a scratch."
my scratch is less noticeable than yours.. but if you tilt mine just right in the light... it is there
        Grader's discretion... sorry
I would say yes to scratch on label at NGC and PCGS....
ANACS... I do not know.. but I would think yes there to

I think this coin will get a details grade.

If that coin was 50 years old and circulated - no problem. But folks expect a recently minted coin..to be scratch free.
