Thank you for all looking at the coin. It is A very nice doubled die for sure, maybe Bob can shed some light on these a little as to minting process. The reason I say that is because most of the foriegn coins were minted here at our us mints, as far as I know the minting process is all the same and they do there best to prevent coins like this from happening, there is no way someone can miss a coin this strong without complete disregard to the process of minting good clean coins without any defects to them, esp a coin like this and I guess a certain amount are free to go through, this coin is nuts to look at for sure.

In 1945, all coins were minted by the Guatemala Mint. It is not uncommon to see wide spread repunched dates and doubled dies on coins from Central and South America. Their quality control was not as stringent as ours. I am not sure of the actual process used in Guatemala at that time frame though. However, we let a few major ones get by also (the 1955 DDO). This is a spectacular coin. I would have loved to see this one in an uncirculated condition.
