It looks as if there is a split in the upper serif and a smaller one in the lower serif... Everything else looks like circ wear... I think this is one Bob should chime in on!!!

Ditto, JFines. I'm thinking there's too much wear to attribute. I hate these! I run into this daily and it drives me nuts! Good subject matter, though.

I think Led ZEPPELIN wrote about this in a song? Something about " What is and what will never be"! :(
