This is a very neat looking coin. On the both sides I see what I see as a coin struck on an improper alloy mix. On the reverse at K-5 is a fragment of metal that is the same color as the streaked metal. This could be a fragment that was stuck to the planchet before the strike, note how it over laps the rim, and struck into the coin. The fragment looks more like brass or bronze than copper. Then again it could be a lamination peel. What do you think?

I guess it is hard to say for sure one way or another, but lamination peel seems more likely.

A lot of lamination going on from the M in UNUM all the way down to the large chunk... I think that is just part of the peel... Nice find!!!

Thank you, sir. That made eggnog come out of my nose. On a side note, I actually heard this song on the radio this year. It was high on the list of worst songs ever made. Are we off-topic yet? In the future, please start a new thread when talking about a song which is divergent from your coin. :sign10:

I've noticed many laminations accompanied with improper alloy, and think that in some cases the impurity may create the lamination error.

They are often related. Either an impurity or normal metal that's not mixed.
