What is considered a double ear, I have seen some like this claiming it was a double ear, but I don't think it is. I just think it is part of the ear So I will ask the Lincoln Cent Forum for attribution, Thanks ......DAN

That one looks like a hit or md on the lobe.

I didn't realize that there were so many variety's of doubled ears, now I have to go back through some of my coins to see if I might have one. I do thank you for the information; cranky..................Dan

That one does not look like a doubled die.

In the link that Cranky gave it shows many different doubled dies that show on the ear.
It's possible that you could find a doubled die that's not listed but that's less likely than finding something else.
There are also many threads with ears that look double that are not from doubled dies and not worth premiums.

Dan. when you are searching your coins, make it a point to look at every ear. After a few thousand, it will become ingrained in your mind what the overall size and shape of the ear looks like. Then when you see one like you have posted in this thread, you will realize that the overall size of your ear is normal, and that the "doubled" portion is cutting into the size of the device and not adding to it. When the doubling cuts into the device, it will be as Matt said, either a hit or MD. A doubled die will ADD size to the device. It takes a LOT of study of practice until this becomes 2nd nature.

I went to the link that cranky suggested, and I found it very helpful, You are right willbrooks, and I thank you for the advice. Guess you have to look at a whole lot of coins to be able to tell the difference. I will keep looking thanks again....................Dan

One thing no one has said is the double ear for 92 has been debunked. And now called a Die chip. It's been mentioned here in a thread but also other attribution specialist have said the same. Last I recall.
