Does anyone know if this is typical of 2 in the date to exhibit little sharp spines or tails? from the back part, and bottom left of the 2?

You need to match yours against the two DDOs listed on CC for this date and mint. In general, yes, tails on some '72s are common in my experience.

I went to Wexlers and found a match, WDDO-003. When you refer to CC, where is that, remember I pretty new at this. Thanks.....................Dan

From the photo it doesn't really seem to look like 1DO-004 to me. It could be the photo. Here is 1DO-004 - WDDO-003 - DDO-003 with marker photos (the gouge in the S is on a working hub and on many 1972s with master die doubling).

I am going to include at the very bottom two shots of a normal gouge like protrusion above the 2 which seems to originate on the master die.

In terms of cross references on CC, it all comes down to a way of identifying the dies as being the same. It looks to me that Wexler used CC's photos to match his file to CC's. At some point CC will need to be updated to show they are the same die.

jcuve: Your photo's are terrific, The marker in the W in we, and the marker in the S in TRUST, Is A perfect match for my coin 1972 S. Can't see my edit box so I'm going to post a pic of it in a new thread as I failed to post full obverse shot of the coin on my first post.
