Why only MDD to only 1 digit

1957D It is still a puzzle to me that only 1 digit in the date can show this much MDD and the other digits show none. How is that possible?

Although it can happen to one digit only in my experience, this does not look like MD to me.

Have you tried using verdi-care or acetone to clean that area? That may just be some dirt or a stain something like that.

I agree, I was thinking it was a hair or some raised gunk on the surface...

I put a little Verdi-care on the coin and "puff the buggers, that's what Will call's them, are gone". That was a neat looking effect. Glad I got a picture of it!!!
