Hi All,
This is my first post on this forum so lets see how it goes. I'm putting together 3 collections of the Lincoln Cent. One for me and one for both of my boys (ages 5 and almost 7). I came across this 1936 P cent that sounded different than all the others so decided to weigh it. It came out to 2.57-2.59 grams. I've checked it multiple times now, each time zeroing the digital scale again. I checked another 1936 P and it weighed 3.1 grams. The one that weighs 2.57-2.59 looks the same (except in a little rougher shape) as the other wheaties which is what is perplexing me. Wondering if any you can give me any suggestions. Do I send it into Wexlers? PCGS? NGC? Or is it nothing special?

This coin is nothing special. You basically have a coin that appears to be acid dipped or has environmental corrosion on it. That would explain the weight difference. 3.1g is the normal weight for the date.

Yepper, that coin definitely looks to have been acid dipped! Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Welcome Craig! I agree also. You will come across many damaged coins that look like they are errors. This is a good place to post them so people who have seen many types of dammage and errors can help you determine which one you have. BUT, I would still keep your ear open for that high pitched ting you heard. One exaple I have come across a few times is a tappered planchet, which will have a low weight and high pitch ring such as yours.
