View Full Version : 1957D RPM or Die Deterioration?

I acquired 1300+ bulk wheat cents. That'll keep me busy for a while.

Here is one of the first ones out of the mix...

At some angles (the shine is a nuisance) it looks like an RPM, but it doesn't fit the convention.

Is this just die deterioration, or something else?

Yours has similar characteristics to 001 thru 011 on Copper Coins... Have you tried to match them??? Is there a split on the lower serif (I think the light reflection is throwing me off)???

Yes, there are similar characteristics to a few of the 001 thru 011, but this one still does not match (fully) any of them. As yet, I am not convinced it is an RPM at all.

It is a bit fat at the bottom, but I'm not picking up any splits in your photo.

I see no distinct splits, so I'm going to nix this one.
