Folks I am trying to post things in the right place, even though everything I have is a question LOL

So this is the familiar die crack above the shield, pretty big though. Sorry for bad photo it was the best out of about a dozen. My question is... does an RIDB evolve from a die crack, or does it start out a RIDB? This is a 2015P. Thank you for helping me out!

It is doubtful that an interior die break could completely happen in one instant. A crack starts, grows, and if it wraps around on itself, the crack creates an island. Many times, these are designated retained die breaks even though the piece of the die is not yet completely broken off. It's a bit of a gray area for attributors.

I also believe part of the qualification to be a RIDB is there needs to be evidence of a shift??? Not 100% sure tho!!!

Thank you Jim. I have read the following definition from cuds-on-coins.com several times and as simple as it sounds, it's still confusing to me. But I am guessing the piece of metal that flakes off the die does shift (move) to a nearby place which creates the actual die break. I have no business trying to explain something I don't fully understand so I'm going back to searching Lincolns!

Retained Interior Die BreaksConnected to die crack or split
Definition: A retained interior die break occurs when a flake detaches from the die face but, instead of falling off, it sinks into the surrounding metal.
