Could it possibly be the upper serif of a misplaced D In the 9? I did a forum search as I felt someone has probably asked this before. I didn't see a previous thread, and I didn't want to miss it if it's possible. It's an interesting shape either way. Thanks all!

I agree with die chip. Very commonplace on the date in the 50s.

Anything is possible! I would go with die chip also though. Reminds me of the "fang" that hangs inside the upper curve of the 5 on a 1954-S. Still a great question though as mint marks have been known to stray much further!

With the fine point it comes to I would also think a chip or ding... Also with out another pic up point I would think it would be next to impossible to verify it as a MM... Good eyeballin'!!!
