Rather than "missing its copper plating," it seems to have been plated/coated with something else. You can see the copper plating coming thru above the U in EPU in one of your pics and in places around the rim.

Yes. Coated. You can see where it's worn off on the high points to expose the copper plating

I agree with the others... I also see copper on the rims... Try soaking in acetone for a day then rub a q tip soaked with acetone on the edge... That should remove some of the coating!!!
