It looks like damage from polishing the die to me.
Just my opinion.

I saw this and it reminded me about the discussion of when trails started.
Probably heavy polishing. Die trails are supposed to be the result of the "single squeeze" process that was not used until 1986 (I think). I would like to hear what "Wavy Steps" says about this one.
