I can see the hit but can't figure how all that metal could have come from it. And what is the metal to the south of the leading edge of the 4? Your thoughts?

The 4 is missing a lot of metal...looks like perfectly normal PSD to me.

A well placed hit... The hit displaced the metal pushing it to the side... The 9 and 5 appear to have taken a hit at the same time???
Hit or no hit, it is still a very cool Lincoln keeper!!

Very neat coin! When I looked, it sorta looked like the hit sheared off a piece of the numeral 4, flipped across the edge of the 4 and got smushed so it stayed in place.??? A quick drawing of the fragment, reflected back across the edge of the 4 and positioned over the thin area of the 4 is shown in the attached photos. Not sure if this fits, but it's an idea....

Plausible theory except there does not appear to be any metal missing from the top part of the 4. I think the hit was from south to north across the front of the 4 pushing metal north.
